چکیده

Results of an experimental investigation are reported, conducted to study the stress-strain behavior of a soil having undergone different amounts of internal erosion. The soil used is gap-graded and cohesionless comprising silt, sand and gravel. Internal erosion tests and subsequent triaxial tests are performed in a specially designed apparatus having modified perforated end platens and a drainage system that permitted the erosion to occur. A constant water head tank is used to drive the erosion and an effluent collection system is used to observe the eroded material. Different amounts of erosion, which progressively narrow the soil grading while maintaining a constant confining stresses, are caused by passing water through compacted soil samples inside the triaxial apparatus in an upward or downward direction. Flow rate through, settlement and volume change of the samples are monitored during the erosion. After erosion, drained compression tests are conducted. Another drained compression test is also conducted on a sample that has not eroded for comparison. It is observed that drained peak deviator stresses progressively reduce and the volumetric deformation of samples become less dilative with increasing amounts of erosion.

Effects of Degree of Consolidation and Anisotropic Consolidation Stresses on Shear Modulus and Damping Ratio of Cohesive Soils at Low Strain

During consolidation process of saturated cohesive soil the soil stiffness increases. Increase of the effective stress due to dissipation of excess pore pressure causes additional stiffness of soil mass. This phenomenon has a very important effect on the behavior of saturated cohesive soils during dynamic loading. In the current investigation the changes in maximum shear modulus. Gmax and dampi...

Check the Soil Yield Stress in Situations with different Slope on a Hill Slope with Pasture Cover with the Occurrence Sulification Erosion

One of the most important types of water erosion, is massive erosion. Soils with fine particles (especially silt particles) have little stability against erosion, because they have more water holding capacity and thus increase the saturation moisture and the likelihood of this type of erosion. So In this study, to investigate the relationship between particle size of silt, with behavior and rhe...

Investigation of Stress-Strain Behavior of Plastic Concrete Using Monotonic Triaxial Compression Tests

In this paper, the mechanical behavior of plastic concrete being used in the cut-off walls of earth dams has been studied. To do the task, triaxial compression tests on the specimens in various ages and mix designs under different confining pressures have been done and the stress-strain behavior of such materials and their strength parameter changes has been experimentally investigated. It has ...

Numerical Study of the Effect of Materials’ Plastic Behavior on Equibiaxial Residual Stress Measurement Using Indentation

Indentation is a new method for estimating residual stress. The plastic behavior of the materials under study can affect indentation parameters and, thus, influences the results of residual stress measurement. In this paper, the effect of yield stress and work-hardening exponent on the accuracy of residual stress measurements in steels and aluminums was studied. Results showed that, for m...

Modelling of Stress-Strain Behaviour of Clayey Soils Using Artificial Neural Network

In this research, behaviour of clayey soils under triaxial loading is studied using Neural Network. The models have been prepared to predict the stress-strain behaviour of remolded clays under undrained condition. The advantage of the model developed is that simple parameters such as physical characteristics of soils like water content, fine content, Atterberg limits and so on, are used to mode...
